2002, Howard quit his day job at Novell to realize his ambitious
dream of working as a cartoonist. In the short time since then,

An avid reader of science fiction, a writer, a sometimes musician (he even
once cofounded an independent record label!) and devoted family man, Howard

JOHN
PICACIO has illustrated covers for books by Harlan Ellison,
Michael Moorcock, Robert Silverberg, Frederik Pohl, Jeffrey
Ford, Charles Stross, Robert Heinlein, Joe R. Lansdale, L.E.
Modesitt, Jr., and many, many more. He’s produced art
for major franchises such as STAR TREK and THE X-MEN, amongst
others. A three-time Hugo Award nominee for Best Professional
Artist, he has won the Locus Award, the International Horror
Guild Award, the Chesley Award, and the much-coveted World
Fantasy Award – all in the Artist category. A lush, 200-page
hardcover collection of his work, COVER STORY: THE ART OF JOHN
PICACIO, is available from MonkeyBrain Books, and was a finalist
for Best Related Book in the 2007 Hugo Awards. In February
2008, Ballantine/Del Rey released a major trade paperback edition
of Michael Moorcock’s ELRIC: THE STEALER OF SOULS, featuring
Picacio’s cover and interior illustrations. He and his
