THE TWELVE LABORS OF GAMING
Hercules had to perform 12 labors to earn
immortality… and now so do you! Chimaeracon attendees can
earn prizes based on how many “labors” they complete:
Adventurer (8-9 labors) – TBA
Hero (10-11 labors) – TBA
Immortal (12 labors) – TBA
The Rules
I. You must abide by all convention rules and the rules of individual events
while performing each labor.
II. You must complete each task yourself; no proxies! Assistance is permitted
if necessary.
III. You must return to the registration desk with proof of the completion
of your labor. A registration ticket signed by a GM (for games) or Chimaeracon
staff member (for non-game events) is proof of participation.
IV. You must be present at the award ceremony on Sunday afternoon to claim
your prize.
The Twelve Labors
The Nemean Lion: Hercules’ first task was to defeat a beast that was
invulnerable to all weapons. Alternative tactics allowed him to win. Your Mission:
play one of the designated miniatures games.
The Lernean Hydra: it took two people to slay
the Hydra – Hercules to chop off its heads and Iolaus to
cauterize the stumps before new heads grew. Your Mission: bring
a friend who didn’t attend Chimaeracon 2007. You and your
friend must both play in other events.
The Cerynean Hind: Hercules had to capture
this sacred golden deer without killing it. Your Mission: support
one of our guests; buy some merchandise, get an autograph or
attend a panel.
The Erymanthian Boar: Hercules chased this
monstrous swine until it could flee no more; endurance was his
key to victory. Your Mission: play in any event in a morning
slot on Saturday or Sunday.
The Augean Stables: cleaning the stables of
King Augeus was Hercules’ most spectacular act of service.
Your Mission: participate in one of the designated charity events.
The Stymphalian Birds: Hercules defeated these
deadly creatures by using their own tactics against them. Your
Mission: play one of the designated card games.
The Cretan Bull: Hercules wrestled this magnificent
animal, the finest of all bulls. Your Mission: play in one of
the designated tabletop role-playing events.
The Mares of Diomedes: Hercules’ great
strength showed these man-eating horses who was boss. Your Mission:
play in one of the designated tabletop/board games.
The Cattle of Geryon: before rounding up these
prize cattle Hercules had to defeat a terrible ogre. Your Mission:
spend an hour or two playing computer games in Chimaeracon’s
console/LAN area.
The Girdle of Hippolyta: Hercules used charm
and guile to acquire this garment from the queen of the Amazons.
Your Mission: participate in the Chimaeracon costume contest
or one of the designated live-action role-play events.
The Apples of the Hesperides: Hercules retrieved
the golden apples of youth from a garden populated by beautiful
nymphs… and a giant serpent. Your Mission: support new
talent; play one of the games by small independent designers
or buy a print from one of the artists in Artists' Alley.
Cerberus: Hercules had to find the three-headed
hound that guarded the gates of the underworld and bring him
before the taskmaster. Your Mission: take a picture with a Chimaeracon
staff member; those at the registration desk don’t count
unless there is no one else waiting in line.
